I have compiled a list of frequently asked questions that I believe will be helpful to you. Please review the list below

Do we have an orientation on the first day?

Yes, on the first day of the tour, I will hold a mandatory safety meeting and orientation at the base hotel for all guests. This session is crucial for all participants and will include a review of the Liability Waiver and the Storm Chasing Tour Agreement, which you will receive via email prior to the tour. Both documents must be signed at the end of the meeting to participate in the tour.

What should I bring on a storm chasing tour?

Please bring all necessary medications, eyewear, and personal hygiene items to ensure your health and well-being throughout the tour. I will be happy to assist in picking up any forgotten essential items from a nearby Walmart or drugstore when possible. Clothing suitable for changing weather conditions is essential, as temperatures can vary drastically during our chase days. Please consider layering. Comfortable and sturdy footwear, such as sneakers or light hiking shoes, is recommended. It is important to bring items to document your adventure, including a cell phone, professional camera, or action camera with sufficient battery life and storage. To stay entertained during long drives, noise-canceling headphones, books and video games are great options. Other items to consider include a travel pillow, a small blanket, sunglasses, sunscreen, bug spray, and possibly a bathing suit for hotel amenities. Lastly,I will always have drinking water in the vans, so feel free to store a small snack or extra drink if you'd like.

Our tours use spacious, comfortable vans/ SUV's, each equipped with air conditioning and the latest safety and weather-tracking technology. Every row has its own outlet to charge devices, and each vehicle is meticulously maintained with new high-quality tires suitable for the road conditions we encounter installed annually. I apply Rain-X to all windows regularly to ensure the best view even during heavy rain. Every guest is guaranteed a window seat for optimal viewing.

What kind of vehicles will we be chasing in?

While I can’t guarantee a tornado sighting, my tours are scheduled during peak storm season to maximize your chances. You may witness various significant weather events, including severe thunderstorms, supercells, lightning, hail, wall clouds, shelf clouds, and more. I guarantee that you will be within viewing distance of a tornado-warned storm. If not, you will receive a $200 credit towards a future tour.

Will I see a tornado during my tour?

What is a typical chase day like?

Each chase day starts with a morning weather briefing. We typically depart from the hotel around 9:00 AM and spend the day tracking storm systems, often driving long distances. There will be a lot of driving, but we should have a few hours of actual chase time, typically between 4 PM and 8 PM, when storms usually develop. We call off chasing when it gets dark, typically about 30 minutes after sunset, for safety reasons. I aim to reach accommodations by 9 or 10 PM, but sometimes we may need to drive further to get out of severe weather’s path or to position ourselves for the following day, minimizing early starts or long drives.

Where will we be chasing?

My tours target Tornado Alley, including states like Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, and more. Occasionally, we may chase outside these areas if conditions are favorable.

Storm chasing with an experienced chaser is very safe. I know how to view storms from a safe distance while still getting close enough to be in the action through years of experience and honing my skills. The main risks include driving long distances, potential encounters with hail, lightning, and other severe weather. I always prioritize the group’s safety.

Are there any other discounts available

What is included in the tour price?

The tour price includes accommodation for each night of the tour (excluding the last night), transportation in my vans, and expert guidance. Meals are not included.

What type of accommodations should we expect?

Our tour itinerary involves visiting various locations every day, and I will always prioritize finding high-quality accommodation for my guests. Typically, I opt for 2.5- 3.5 star hotels with a minimum Google rating of 4 stars and a minimum Priceline customer rating of 8+. Our preferred hotels include reputable chains such as Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn, Best Western, Sleep Inn, La Quinta, Super 8, and more.

What should I expect on non-chase days?

If there is a lull in severe weather, we will use the day to reposition for the next storm system or visit local attractions if time permits. My goal is to make every day of the tour enjoyable and educational.

Is travel insurance required?

Travel insurance is not required but is highly recommended. I suggest purchasing travel insurance that covers trip cancellation, medical expenses, and any other unforeseen circumstances. This can provide peace of mind and financial protection in case of unexpected events.

Can I bring my pet on the tour?

Unfortunately pets are not allowed on my tours. This policy ensures the safety and comfort of all guests, as well as the smooth operation of the tour.

Are children allowed on the tours?

No, individuals under the age of 18 are not allowed to travel alone on my tours. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, and I will need to see proof of guardianship. Additionally, I do not recommend my tours for anyone under the age of 16 due to the long hours on the road and the nature of storm chasing, which can be physically and mentally demanding. This ensures safety and proper supervision throughout the tour. If you have any questions or need further information, please contact me.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel your booking, please notify me as soon as possible. Cancellations made before February 15th will receive a refund minus the $750 deposit. Cancellations after February 15th are non-refundable. Please note that tour reservations are non-transferable.

What kind of physical condition do I need to be in?

My storm chasing tours can be physically demanding, involving long hours of driving and occasional walking or hiking to get the best views. Guests should be in good health, able to handle extended periods in a vehicle, and capable of moderate physical activity. Please note that my vans are not wheelchair accessible, and there may be times when we need to get in and out of the vehicle quickly. If you have specific health concerns or mobility issues, please contact me to discuss whether this tour is suitable for you.

How do I prepare for a storm chasing tour?

Mentally and physically preparing for a storm chasing tour is important. Be ready for long hours on the road, varied weather conditions, and the excitement of storm chasing. Stay informed about the weather and familiarize yourself with the basics of storm chasing to enhance your experience.

What safety measures are in place?

Safety is my top priority. I ensure that we view storms from a safe distance while still getting close enough to be in the action. I follow strict safety protocols and use well-maintained vehicles equipped with the latest safety and weather-tracking technology.

What types of storms will we chase?

We chase a variety of severe weather phenomena, including tornadoes, supercells, hailstorms, and lightning displays. My tours are scheduled during peak storm season to maximize your chances of witnessing these incredible natural events.

What happens if we need to use the restroom while chasing in remote areas?

Storm chasing often takes us to remote locations where amenities can be sparse. Here’s how we manage restroom breaks:

  • Planned Stops: We plan our routes to include regular stops at gas stations, truck stops, or rest areas where restrooms are available.

  • In-Between Stops: If a restroom is not immediately available, I recommend limiting fluid intake while still staying hydrated. This helps manage the need for frequent restroom breaks.

  • During the Chase: Once we are actively chasing a storm, there might be times when we cannot stop for a restroom break due to the urgency and safety requirements of the situation. Please be prepared for such scenarios.

  • Portable Toilet: For emergencies, I have a portable toilet available in the vehicle to ensure everyone’s comfort and safety.

If you have specific concerns or medical conditions that require frequent restroom access, I recommend that storm chasing tours might not be suitable for you. Please discuss any special needs with me prior to booking to ensure I can accommodate you as best as possible.
